R&B legend Jane Eugene will this week get a decision on her impending deportation from the US.
The lead singer and founding member of '80s British band Loose Ends, who scored hits with Hangin' on a String (Contemplating) and Magic Touch, has been detained by ICE agents for nearly three months due to a visa overstay.
Currently housed in a correctional facility in Kentucky and facing deportation, Eugene is hoping to be released this week on bail and allowed to stay in the US, despite a 26-year overstay of her visa.
The singer was reportedly travelling across the Canadian border in April when she was stopped by immigration officers and taken to a jail in upstate New York. She was then transferred to the Kentucky facility where "conditions are taking a huge toll", a new GoFundMe page notes.
"Jane's health is rapidly deteriorating. Unable to work or generate income for the past few months and foreseeable future, Jane needs our help."
Together with vocalist/guitarist Carl McIntosh and keyboardist/vocalist Steve Nichol, Eugene comprised the founding lineup of Loose Ends in 1980.
Since leaving the band in 1990, Eugene has been touring as Loose Ends featuring Jane Eugene.
If deported, Eugene faces the possibility of being banned from the US for a decade.
