As excitement builds for the highly anticipated Oasis reunion concerts at Wembley Stadium, Wembley Park has launched a compelling new open-air photography exhibition titled "Brothers: Liam and Noel Through the Lens of Kevin Cummins." This free, accessible exhibition, running until September 30th, offers a unique and intimate look at one of British music's most iconic sibling duos.
Featuring over 20 large-format photographs by legendary British music photographer Kevin Cummins, the exhibition is strategically displayed across Wembley Park's landmark locations, including opposite Wembley Stadium and the OVO Arena Wembley – venues the Gallagher brothers have famously headlined. The images, predominantly shot in 1994 just before the release of Definitely Maybe, capture Liam and Noel at a pivotal moment in their ascent to global stardom.
Cummins, renowned for his era-defining work with bands like Joy Division and The Smiths, and as NME's chief photographer for years, worked closely with Oasis in their early days. His photographs were instrumental in shaping their public image, famously capturing the brothers in Manchester City shirts emblazoned with the word "Brother." The exhibition includes rare shots from Oasis's first-ever studio session, candid hotel-room moments, and dynamic urban scenes that underscore their raw energy.
"When the Oasis album, Morning Glory, was released in 1995, we were all living in Oasis world," Cummins remarked. "I never thought I’d see anything like it again, but here we are; back in Oasis world again. The gigs will be great. The mood is great, and I love the idea that those of us who were there first time round, are sharing it with excited younger fans who are seeing the band for the first time."
Claudio Giambrone, Head of Cultural Programming at Wembley Park and curator of the show, emphasized the exhibition's focus: "We wanted to show a different side to the Gallaghers — not the usual narrative of conflict, but the emotional depth and connection that Kevin captured so clearly. These photographs reveal moments of humour, tension, closeness and trust."
"Brothers" is a must-see for Oasis fans and music enthusiasts alike, offering a fresh perspective on the complex and enduring bond between Liam and Noel Gallagher.
