Ringo Starr still feels he's in his twenties whenever he looks in the mirror.

In an interview with The New York Times published on Wednesday, the Beatles drummer discussed his upcoming birthday. The legendary musician turns 85 on 7 July.

"It blows me away. I look in the mirror and I'm 24. I never got older than 24," he told the outlet, adding to himself, "But guess what? You did."

Since 1989, Ringo has toured the world with his Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band.

As to how he maintains his energy, the It Don't Come Easy singer credited performing regularly.

"I love what I'm doing. When I first started... my mother would come to the gigs. She would always say, 'You know, son, I always feel you're at your happiest when you're playing your drums,'" the Liverpool native recalled. "So she noticed. And I do."

Elsewhere in the conversation, Ringo noted that he tries to be spontaneous whenever possible.

"I live in the now," he added. "I didn't plan any of it. I love that life I'm allowed to live."

Most recently, Ringo has been promoting his country music album Look Up.

Released in January, the project includes guest appearances from the likes of Billy Strings and Molly Tuttle, and contributions from T-Bone Burnett.
