Lewis Capaldi makes courageous return with powerful new single 'Survive'
27 June 2025
After a two-year hiatus, global superstar Lewis Capaldi has made his highly anticipated return today with the release of his new single, 'Survive.' This bold and brave anthem offers a raw glimpse into the challenging period he faced, culminating in his emotional, unifying performance at Glastonbury 2023, where fans famously helped him finish his set.
'Survive' is a deeply honest track that confronts self-doubt and despair, with Capaldi singing, "Most nights I fear that I’m not enough, I’ve had my share of Monday mornings when I can’t get up." Yet, the chorus bursts with defiance: "I swear to God I’ll survive, if it kills me to, I’m gonna’ get up and try, if it’s the last thing I’ll do." The track reunites Capaldi with close collaborator Romans, who co-wrote his global smash 'Someone You Loved.' This monumental hit recently achieved 10x Platinum status, solidifying its place as the UK’s most streamed song of all time and the world’s fourth highest ever streamed song.
The release of 'Survive' follows a series of intimate warm-up shows in Scotland last May, where Capaldi appeared as a guest of the mental health charity CALM. These performances allowed him to test his comfort and emotional readiness without pressure, proving to be a triumph.
Capaldi's last album, Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, secured his second UK number one album and spawned three more UK number one singles: 'Pointless,' 'Wish You The Best,' and the Platinum-certified 'Forget Me.' His compelling and honest GRAMMY-nominated Netflix documentary, Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now, also became the most-watched film on the platform following its release in April 2023.
'Survive' not only marks a significant musical comeback but also a renewed sense of purpose for Capaldi. It’s a testament to finding strength even in the darkest moments, proving that he's not just surviving, but returning stronger, heart wide open, and ready for this new chapter.
