Sabrina Carpenter has unveiled an alternate cover for her upcoming album Man's Best Friend following backlash over the original artwork.
The Espresso hitmaker sparked controversy earlier this month when she unveiled the suggestive artwork for her upcoming seventh album. The provocative image features the 26-year-old kneeling on the floor and touching a man's knee while he grabs her hair.
While she hasn't addressed the criticism directly, the pop star alluded to the uproar when she shared an alternate album cover on social media on Wednesday.
"I signed some copies of Man's Best Friend for you guys & here is a new alternate cover approved by God," she wrote, before directing her fans to her web store, where the alt cover is available in vinyl and cassette formats.
In the new black-and-white image, Sabrina wears a bejewelled gown as she clutches onto a suited man's arm and leans into him. Three other men can be seen in the background.
The Manchild singer previously defended herself when a user on X asked if the pop star had a personality "outside of sex" amid the backlash over the album cover. She replied, "Girl yes and it is goooooood (sic)."
Carly Simon, who experienced her own scandal over the cover of her 1975 album Playing Possum, also told Rolling Stone that she didn't understand why Sabrina was "getting such flak" over such a "tame" photograph.
"She's not doing anything outrageous," she stated. "It seems tame. There have been far flashier covers than hers. One of the most startling covers I've ever seen was (The Rolling Stones') Sticky Fingers. That was out there in terms of sexual attitude. So I don't know why she's getting such flak."
Man's Best Friend, which comes hot on the heels of Sabrina's 2024 album Short n' Sweet, will be released on 29 August.
