Cradle of Filth singer Dan Filth has shared his experience of proposing to his girlfriend live on stage.

The frontman popped the question at the Download Festival in Donington over the weekend.

"Nobody knew about it," he revealed to MetalSucks. "I forgot to tell the band, and my family, including my mum, who was here. So, I quickly had to let them know, as they were watching from the side of the stage as well.

"I already had the ring... and I thought, 'You know what, I'm going to kick myself if I don't do it at such a prestigious event.'

"But, then it's also like, 'F**k, this could go horribly wrong.' As in, she could say no, or the audience could go, 'Play another song, get on with it.'"

Fortuitously, it went very well as Filth's longtime partner Sofiya Belousova said yes.

Filth first addressed the audience, "I want to beg a few minutes of your time. This is really important, at least for me. I'm gonna embarrass my partner now. Sofiya, come out here."

At that point, Belousova made her way to the stage. Meanwhile, a cloaked figure entered from the opposite side of the stage as Filth commented, "In your own time, ring bearer." He then flashed a ring to the crowd noting that it was "all the way from Mordor", before dropping to one knee.

Earlier this year, Cradle of Filth guitarist Marek 'Ashok' Smerda and keyboardist Zoe Federoff got married in a ceremony in Tucson, Arizona.
