Jillian Lauren, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, pleaded not guilty to felony weapons charges in court on Tuesday.

The author, whose full name is Jillian Lauren Shriner, was officially charged with two felony counts on Tuesday following a bizarre shootout with police in the backyard of her Los Angeles home on 8 April.

During an appearance at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center, Lauren pleaded not guilty to discharge of a firearm with gross negligence and assault with a semiautomatic firearm.

Lauren, 51, was originally booked on suspicion of attempted murder after being involved in a standoff with police officers in the residential Eagle Rock neighbourhood while they were searching for three hit-and-run suspects.

According to the police, the Everything You Ever Wanted author came out of her house with a gun and refused to drop it after "numerous" demands. She allegedly fired her weapon at the officers, who shot her in the arm.

Lauren, who was not involved in the hit-and-run, was shot in the backyard of her home. According to police, she retreated into her house after the incident before eventually coming out and surrendering herself to the cops.

She was treated at a local hospital, booked for attempted murder and later released on a $1 million (£761,000) bond.

The next hearing in the case will take place on 18 June.

Shriner and Lauren have been married since 2005.
