Jillian Lauren, the wife of Weezer's bassist Scott Shriner, allegedly fired a gun at officers before being shot earlier this week.
The author was charged with attempted murder this week following a stand-off with police officers in the residential Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles.
According to the police, Lauren came out of her house with a gun and refused to drop it after "numerous" demands. She "then pointed the handgun at the officers", who shot her in the shoulder.
In a new update, Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Forkish told People that the 51-year-old fired at police officers first.
"Our investigation revealed evidence such as a shell casing and video footage showing she repeatedly ignored police commands to disarm and that she fired her weapon at LAPD officers. She was subsequently booked for attempted murder of a peace officer," Forkish said.
Officers were in the Eagle Rock neighbourhood searching for three hit-and-run suspects who allegedly fled the scene of a car accident. One of the alleged suspects ended up on the street where Lauren and Shriner live, prompting her to become caught up in the case.
Lauren, who was not involved in the hit-and-run, was shot in the back yard of her home. According to police, she retreated into her house after the incident before eventually coming out and surrendering herself to the cops. She was treated a local hospital, booked for attempted murder and later released on a $1 million (£761,000) bond.
One of the three hit-and-run suspects was arrested and released from custody, while the other two remain at large.
Shriner, 59, told the New York Post outside their home on Thursday that his wife was "alright" and confirmed that Weezer would still be playing at Coachella festival in California this weekend.
Shriner and Lauren have been married since 2005.
