Max George has opened up about a recent "setback" in his health journey.

In December last year, The Wanted lead singer was diagnosed with an atrioventricular heart block and underwent emergency surgery to have a pacemaker fitted to keep his heart beating regularly.

Now Max has revealed that he recently underwent a second operation to fix a problem with the pacemaker wires.

The 36-year-old took to Instagram on Monday to give an update on his health.

"A few weeks ago I had to go back into hospital after having some physical symptoms in my chest," Max wrote in the post. "It turned out that one of the leads was placed too far into my heart."

"The second surgery took about 2 hours," he continued. "Luckily, it was a success and they kindly let me listen to Oasis the whole time!"

The post included a photo of Max lying in a hospital bed wearing headphones and another snap of a scar on his chest.

"It's been a setback, but it's just one of those things," he continued in the caption. "I've had a few complications the last couple of months but I'm having loads of tests to make sure everything is all good."

The Glad You Came hitmaker told fans he needs time to recover but shared that he's "sure I'll be back on top form in no time".

Max concluded, "Thanks everyone for all your lovely messages and support through what's been a pretty rough time. Means a lot."

The post comes after the pop singer told The Sun on Sunday that he was "nervous" about the second operation.

"I thought I was on the road to recovery but when I was told I needed a second operation I was nervous, as pulling the pacemaker wires out of the heart wall risks bleeding on the heart," he explained. "I didn't have a choice, though. I had to have it done."
