Ariana Grande has admitted she suffered memory loss from her early career years.

The Wicked star confessed years of stressful work commitments had left her with gaps in her recall.

Interviewed for the Smartless podcast this week, Ariana, 31, had already explained she had worked herself beyond capacity in her early career.

"When I was younger and during my first few years as a pop star," Ariana, 31, explained, "I really struggled with boundaries and not being able to say 'No' when I needed to if I was running on empty."

Later, the Thank U, Next singer discovered she had completely forgotten previously appearing alongside the podcast's comedian co-host, Will Arnett on British TV chat show Chatty Man, in 2016.

"Wait, no. What weird talk show did we do?" Ariana replied when Will, 54, reminded her of their shared experience. However, when he described the show as featuring a "drinks cart", Ariana's memory was jogged: "Oh my god, that's right!" she replied. "It's back. Wait, I do remember that!"

She went on to reassure Will it wasn't his fault she'd initially failed to retrieve the memory, explaining her early, intense years as a public figure had left her with blank spaces.

"It's not you, it was the boundaries, remember?" she continued. "It was just me. I'm missing a couple of years - I'm super serious - from that time. I'm literally missing a few years."
