Taylor Swift’s new single Fortnight has become Spotify’s most streamed song in a single day.

The star’s hotly-anticipated album The Tortured Poets Department was released on Friday, and on Saturday, the streaming service confirmed that the first single from the album has already broken records.

“Taylor Swift's Fortnight (feat. Post Malone) became Spotify's most-streamed song in a single day,” the platform announced.

On Saturday, Post Malone took to social media to pay tribute to Taylor following the success of Fortnight.

“It’s once in a lifetime that someone like @taylorswift comes into this world,” Post, who is also a co-writer on Fortnight, wrote as he shared a photo of the pair together. “I am floored by your heart and your mind, and I am beyond honored to have been asked to help you with your journey.”

“I love you so much,” he added. “Thank you Tay.”

Taylor, who wrote and directed the music video for Fortnight, shared an insight into the inspiration behind the predominantly black and white promo which shows her face covered in Post’s tattoos.

“When I was writing the Fortnight music video, I wanted to show you the worlds I saw in my head that served as the backdrop for making this music,” she explained on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Pretty much everything in it is a metaphor or a reference to one corner of the album or another.

“For me, this video turned out to be the perfect visual representation of this record.”

Dead Poets Society stars Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles also make a cameo appearance in the video for Fortnight.

The Tortured Poets Department has continued to break records since its release.

The album has surpassed Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter as the biggest album in 2024, and has become the first album in Spotify history to reach more than 300 million streams in a single day.

The 34-year-old singer has also been named the most-streamed artist in the single day on the platform.

Taylor dropped the first 16 tracks as planned on Friday, then sent fans into a frenzy just a few hours later by revealing it was a double album and releasing an additional 15 tracks.
