Normani has opened up about the meaning behind her upcoming album.

The Motivation singer has revealed that her forthcoming debut solo album, Dopamine, represents everything she has been through in her life so far.

"I know what I've been through... For me, this upcoming album is not just about music coming out," she told Who What Wear in a new interview. "It feels like a representation of everything I've gone through to get to this moment."

The singer, who rose to fame as a member of girl group Fifth Harmony, revealed that her past experiences have allowed her to create her upcoming album.

"I know I needed time, experiences, and space coming out of (Fifth Harmony) in order to become the version of myself I needed to be," she said. "Without (all of that), I would not be able to exist within the creative space that I am in now. I would not be able to make the type of music I'm making now."

Elsewhere in the interview, Normani opened up about the expectations surrounding her upcoming solo album, which is being released six years after she dropped her first single.

"I end up having certain conversations with myself where I'm thinking, 'Is what everybody is saying true? Did I miss my moment? Did I wait too long? Do they still care?'" she admitted.

Dopamine, which was officially announced last month, does not yet have a release date.
