Lily Allen has confessed she loves her children but they "ruined" her career.

The Not Fair singer said while she adored her children, being a consistent parent to them had come at the cost of her music career.

"My children ruined my career. I love them and they complete me, but in terms of pop stardom, they totally ruined it," she told the Radio Times Podcast.

"I get really annoyed when people say you can have it all because, quite frankly, you can’t."

Lily, 38, shares two daughters, Ethel Mary, 12, and Marnie Rose, 10, with her ex-husband Sam Cooper, 45.

She went on to explain that, having grown up with parents in the entertainment industry, she wasn't prepared to sacrifice her children's happiness to pursue stardom.

"Some people choose their career over their children and that’s their prerogative, but my parents were quite absent when I was a kid," Lily said.

"I feel like it left some nasty scars that I’m not willing to repeat on mine."

Lily's father is actor Keith Allen, 70. Her mother, 36-year-old film producer Alison Owen, was a single parent to Lily and her brother Alfie, 37, after Keith walked out on the family when Lily was four years old.
