Rachel Chinouriri Talks About The Story Behind The Title Track Of Her New Album ‘What A Devastating Turn Of Events’…
So I actually made this album title probably in 2019, 2020, but it didn't really have a home. And then we had a passing in my family, and I wrote the story, which is in the song, and I had this melody for the chorus, and I couldn't really figure it out. And then I started singing this title I had written down, and I was like, "Ah, this fits kind of perfectly." And I think my songs have the ability to kind of sound very dance-y sometimes, but also lyrically are quite generally sad. So for the album, I wanted to have the kind of turning point where everything hits the fan. I think in life when you get bad news, it's always unexpected. For me anyways, in my life, it's always been quite unexpected and everything kind of flips upside down, so I put it right in the middle of the album, so it kind of flips and makes you think, and then it gets quite sad in the album after that point.

Rachel Chinouriri Talks About The Sense Of Responsibility And Representation That Comes With Being A Woman Of Color Playing Guitar…
Yeah, I think there is some degree of responsibility because there's people before me who have worked super hard to at least get noticed and maybe didn't have their times or weren't respected or seen in a certain sense. And having things like social media allowed me to have a platform to speak for myself versus back then when it was pressing, you didn't really know what would come out. And I think it's something where when I was 13, I wished I had someone who looked like me making the music I made, and now I hope at 25 that there are other girls who are now 13, who liked the stuff I do, who are going to school and feel a bit like the odd one out, whether they're Black, POC or white, to be honest. Just any sort of goal, just having representation of a Black woman doing this kind of music and hopefully doing it well.

Rachel Chinouriri Talks About Her Reaction To Adele Wanting To Come To Her Show…
I mean, if she comes, I'm going to be very surprised and impressed myself. However, even if she doesn't come, I gasped and probably yelled for about 10 minutes in the car when I saw that video. Even though I saw her about nine hours after it happened, I was so shocked and she's just... She went to my college before me, and she's on the alumni wall, and everyone loves her and aspires to be like her. So yeah, it's just such a full circle moment.
