Elbow frontman Guy Garvey has explained the meaning behind the title of the forthcoming Elbow album, The Seldom Seen Kid, to BBC 6Music.
“The album’s called The Seldom Seen Kid which is a reference to our friend Brian Clancy who died a couple of years ago. The Seldom Seen Kid is originally a character from a Damon Runyon book, and it was also one of my Dad’s mate’s nicknames in the ’70s when he worked in Manchester on the newspapers. We’ve chosen it as a title as it was way to reference Brian without being mournful about losing him, cos he was a great man, and a very funny man.”
An audio clip of album track, The Bones of You, is available to stream at www.elbow.co.uk .
The Seldom Seen Kid is due out in March courtesy of Fiction.
