Karol G has been named 2024 Woman of the year by Billboard.

The 32-year-old Colombian singer-songwriter will be presented with the Woman of the Year award at this year's Billboard Women in Music Awards on 6 March.

The announcement comes just days after Karol, real name Carolina Giraldo Navarro, won her first Grammy.

"With her immense talent, Karol G has created a movement for women across the globe due to her empowering lyrics and shameless confidence," said Hannah Karp, Billboard's editorial director, in a new press release.

"The release of her groundbreaking album Mañana Será Bonito has proven her a force to be reckoned with in both the English and Spanish charts," she continued. "We are so excited to honor her as Woman of the Year."

Karol signed with Universal Music Latino in 2016. The following year, she raised her international profile after the release of her hit Ahora Me Llama with Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny. Her debut album, Unstoppable, was released later that year and peaked at number two on Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart.

Her fourth album, Mañana Será Bonito, released in February 2023, became her first project to debut at number one on the Billboard 200.

The 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards will be hosted by actress Tracee Ellis Ross. Other honorees include Charli XCX, who will receive the Powerhouse Award, Kylie Minogue, who will receive the Icon Award and Ice Spice, who will receive the Hitmaker Award.

The annual music event will be held at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles.
