Jason Donovan has confessed he finds it hard not to drink too much.

The former Neighbours star has to make a conscious effort to limit his alcohol intake.

“Overdrinking. I don't drink all the time, but I do love a glass of wine, and it's very difficult to just stop at one or two,” he told the Guardian on Saturday. “If I overdrink, I don't feel good about myself.”

Jason struggled with substance abuse in the 1990s, and has previously admitted he took three grams of cocaine a day.

“In the 1990s I was so selfish, I wouldn't really have noticed what was going on,” he wrote in his memoir, Between The Lines: My Story Uncut.

After kicking his drug habit in the late 90s, Jason, now 55, was able to re-establish his career. He has since appeared in several stage shows including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and a reprisal of his role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat, after he first appeared in the lead role in 1994.

Jason recently appeared alongside Kylie Minogue in the last-ever episode of Neighbours, the soap that made them both famous between 1986 and 1989. The former partners appeared as their original characters from the soap, Scott and Charlene.
