Calum Scott teases a new album, new tour and a near disaster on stage last year...

Calum Scott joined King of the Jungle Sam Thompson in the Hits Radio studio last night for a chat about his new single Light House.

It's going to be a huge year for the Dancing on my Own singer, who’s supporting Ed Sheeran on tour as well as working towards a new album and a possible tour of his own. But of course, the big question Hits Radio listeners really wanted answered was ‘Are you the Piranha on The Masked Singer?!

Calum said: ‘I’m getting texts saying that people think I’m the Piranha on The Masked Singer! I can’t confirm or deny that, but I might be throwing you off if it is me?’

Back to the day job and Calum also teased a new tour of his own alongside a possible new album: ‘There may be a tour – I can’t confirm or deny that either! And for me I’m constantly working towards an album because they’re chapters of your life. My first album I was just like I can’t believe I get to do this! I’ve gone from working at Hull City Council, literally talking about Sandra and her off street parking, to touring the world. Album two was more mature, talked about some mental health issues and stuff and then this album I think I’ve spread my wings a bit, it’s a new era.’

He’s looking forward to becoming ‘besties’ with Ed when they head out on tour but the pair have already been working on new music together: ‘Ed wrote a song for David Guetta and I vocal’d it, sent it to David and Ed and David emailed me back and said ‘You sound good. David.’ I was like I don’t know how to take that! I texted back and replied ‘I’m here if you need me. Calum.’ He’s not emailed me back!!’

Calum and Sam also took the opportunity to reminisce about Calum’s performance at Hits Live last year but it wasn’t quite the story Sam was expecting!

‘In Birmingham I thought I’d pooed my pants! I had a really bad tummy, I don’t know why I’m telling you this but just between me and you Sam I had a really bad belly and I was on the toilet all afternoon. I banged an Imodium in - I was wearing a suit so I was like’ best make sure I don’t have an accident!’ - but halfway through I was like ‘I think it’s happened!’ If it had happened I’d have spent the last fifteen minutes with it on my person. But I was a professional, I delivered the songs but I didn’t turn around, I didn’t dare. I was clenching! It was real…’
