Kate Hudson has shared that she has been writing music her "whole life" but "never shared it".

During an appearance on Today, which aired on Thursday, the actress opened up about her dream of releasing music.

Kate, 44, first teased an album release a year ago, however, no details have been revealed so far.

"I've just been writing music my whole life and I've never shared it, and so I just thought maybe I have to do that," she explained.

The interview followed soon after Kate performed an intimate concert during her annual vacation in Colorado, singing a series of covers, including a rendition of Sinead O'Connor's Nothing Compares 2 U.

"Honestly, It was very vulnerable singing in front of like a very small, I'd never sung in such an intimate space and it was very unforgiving and really good for me," the Almost Famous star said of the mini-concert. "So that was really nice, but I've always loved to sing and it's just something I'm gonna just put out there."

Kate explained that if she does venture into the music industry, she wants to do it properly.

"I always said like with music when people would ask me if I'm ever going to do it, for me, if I'm gonna do it, I'm really gonna really do it, I'm going to really commit to the process, cause I write," she told the interviewer. "There's nothing half-a**ed about my relationship to music."

Kate added of creating music, "It's the most vulnerable I think I have ever been creatively, and I'm just at a time where I just don't have the fear anymore so I just want to put it out, and we'll get there."

The star has shown off her musical talents during her time as an actress. She sang in the 2009 film Nine and in the fourth season of Glee.
