Singer takes part in Climate Live’s programme at COP alongside: Stella McCartney, Dodie, Gemma Griffiths, Wisdom Keepers, Vanessa Nakate, Iasaias Hernandez and many more

Yesterday Ellie Goulding addressed audiences at the UN Climate Conference 2023 in Dubai.

Speaking on a panel held by the youth-led charity Climate Live, the singer was positive about the power of music to create positive action, saying: “Music is a universal language. It is so embedded in so many different cultures around the world…it brings us together and it’s a magnificent tool for pushing change.”

Goulding has been a passionate advocate for climate activism for many years. When asked about the importance of cultural leaders being at COP she said: “I feel like it’s important for me to be here because this is what’s in my heart.”

Climate Live is a youth-led charity who organise climate concerts and have a powerful presence at festivals to engage a new audience in the climate movement through music. They have a wide range of influential supporters including Billie Eilish, Greta Thunberg, Christiana Figureres, Cara Delevingne, Amybeth McNulty, Any Gabrielly, Bella Ramsey, Sam Fender, Mabel and many more.

Goulding’s talk was one of many activities held by the charity at COP this year, with a range of youth climate groups, NGOS and businesses all sharing their knowledge, interspersed with live music.

Notable speakers and performers include: Stella McCartney, dodie, Gemma Griffiths, Wisdom Keepers, Vanessa Nakate, Isaias Hernandez, AY Young, Xiye Bastida, Djeuna Tikuna and many more.

The sessions will follow the themes of COP, including: the power of music to create change, a fossil free future, youth, health, recovery and peace, film screenings from indigenous frontline defenders, gender equality, a just transition, multilevel action, oceans, and food and agriculture.

They will be applying pressure on world leaders to take action at COP28, as well as providing a space for the most affected and marginalized young people to raise their voices on crucial issues, while sharing their knowledge.

Climate Live’s aims are to:
ENGAGE: enlarge the global movement by engaging a new audience through music.
EDUCATE: raise awareness of the challenges faced today by people on the frontlines of ecological breakdown.
EMPOWER: pressure world leaders to take action to combat the climate crisis with a focus on COP28

"The Climate Live Pavilion at COP28 is a monumental milestone, empowering young climate activists from the Global South to ignite change and affirming the belief that activism is our rent for a sustainable future” - Tafadzwa Chando, International Program Coordinator for Climate Live.
