A young man has died at a Smashing Pumpkins gig in Canada, after seemingly being crushed in the crowd.

The unnamed fan, aged 20, was killed during Billy Corgan's reformed rock titans' show in Vancouver on Monday evening.

He is understood to have been pulled unconscious from the crowd at the Pacific National Exhibition Forum venue and taken to hospital.

Attempts to revive the injured man at the concert failed and he was pronounced dead by medics at the city's St Paul's Hospital.

Vancouver police spokesman Constable Howard Chow explained: "There was nothing to indicate there was any foul play or anything suspicious about his death."

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for the venue said: "Regardless of how it happened, a 20-year-old who came to enjoy a night of music is gone. It's extremely sad and very tragic."

Police have asked that anyone who may have witnessed the incident, including those who dragged the victim from the crowd, contact them.
