Jemima Kirke's daughter burst into tears when she surprised her with a video call from Taylor Swift.

The Girls actress currently stars alongside Joe Alwyn, who is in a relationship with the Shake It Off star, in the TV adaptation of Sally Rooney's novel Conversations with Friends.

During a night off from filming, Jemima had drinks with Taylor and decided to spontaneously call her 11-year-old daughter Rafella.

"I was having drinks with Taylor and I told her my daughter is a fan and she said, 'Why don't we call her?' I said, 'I don't know if we can cold-call my daughter. She might die!'" Jemima told The Telegraph Magazine. "But we did and she just started sobbing. I felt bad and she texted a few minutes later saying, 'Can we try again?' She was crying and laughing and covering her face. She didn't know what to do."

The 37-year-old was first approached to play Melissa, a writer and the wife of Joe's actor character Nick, when she was filming Sex Education in Wales and didn't immediately respond to the email as she hated being away from Rafella and her nine-year-old son Memphis.

"I was exhausted and hated being away from my kids," she explained. "I wasn't in the mood to do any more work so I kept ignoring the email. Finally, I looked at it and said, 'I'll do a Zoom audition once I'm done filming.'"

She eventually landed the role and filmed the series around Ireland between April and October last year.

Conversations with Friends is streaming now.
