More than 27,000 young voters have spoken, and actor Kristen Bell and AFI frontman Davey Havok have been crowned the winners of the third annual World's Sexiest Vegetarian contest. The online contest is held by peta2, the world's largest youth animal rights organization. Bell and Havok narrowly edged out Andy Hurley of Fall Out Boy, Greta Salpeter of The Hush Sound, Jared Leto of 30 Seconds to Mars, Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia, and one of last year's winners, actor Natalie Portman. Bell now joins Portman as the only women in the history of the World's Sexiest Vegetarian contests to have won the title in both the peta2 and PETA categories.
After the critically acclaimed and wildly popular show Veronica Mars came to an end, Bell went to Hawaii to film the Judd Apatow comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall, in which she stars in the title role. Frequently spotted at her two favorite Los Angeles vegetarian restaurants, Real Food Daily and Madeline's Bistro, Bell had no problems going vegetarian years ago. "I had a hard time disassociating the animals I cuddled with … from the animals on my plate, and I never really cared for the taste of meat," she says. "I always loved my Brussels sprouts!"
Havok started AFI with some high school friends, and the group has put out a steady stream of popular and critically acclaimed albums ever since, culminating in last year's release Decemberunderground. Havok says that going vegan makes the world a better place for animals and humans. "I certainly would encourage anyone to explore a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle .... I think we must begin with the betterment of humanity, which would then naturally result in compassion for animals.
