Brandy faces a year in prison if convicted of driving offences following the death of a woman in a car accident in 2006, it has been revealed.

The husband of a woman who died following a collision involving the American star's car issued a lawsuit this week seeking unspecified damages.

Awatef Aboudihaj was killed in the accident, which happened on December 30, prompting Marouane Hdidou to file a legal challenge in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

In the lawsuit, Brandy is accused of negligence and wrongful death, which carries a sentence of 12 months in prison and a $1000 fine, if she is convicted.

The news comes in the wake of a $50 million lawsuit from Aboudihaj's parents filed against the US star.
