Bono has assured fans he will be "back to full voice" for the remainder of U2's tour after suffering vocal issues over the weekend (01-02Sep18).
The Irish band were performing at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin, Germany, on Saturday (01Sep18) when Bono lost his voice midway through their track Red Flag Day. He attempted to sing their next song, Beautiful Day, but the 58-year-old was unable to, and after a short break, the band told the audience that they had to cancel their show.
They later issued a statement apologising, and revealed Bono was seeking medical advice as he had been in good health before the concert.
On Sunday night, the frontman updated fans on the group's official website, announcing that the tour would go on and they had rescheduled the Berlin date.
"I've seen a great doctor and with his care I’ll be back to full voice for the rest of the tour," he wrote. "So happy and relieved that anything serious has been ruled out. My relief is tempered by the knowledge that the Berlin audience were so inconvenienced. There was an amazing atmosphere in the house, it was going to be one of those unforgettable nights but not for this reason… We can’t wait to get back there on November 13th."
In video footage posted on social media, Bono can be seen pausing the show and telling the crowd that "something's happened" and that they "cannot go on."
"Before we left the dressing room, I was ready to sing for you. Something's happened and I think we cannot go on. It's not right for you... I'm sure this is not a big, big problem, but I'm going to have to do something," he said, reportedly blaming the smoke machines for affecting his voice.
The European leg of the band's Experience & Innocence Tour is set to continue in Cologne, Germany on Tuesday.
