Tanya Hart was hired by BET in 1990 to kick off the network’s West Coast division and she quickly rose to stardom. In 1992 she gave Tupac his first televised interview and in 2003 she appeared in the Oscar nominated documentary Tupac Resurrection. She also interviewed sports greats like Wilt Chamberlain and World power players such as Winne Mandella. Check out our interview with her on the Murder Master Music Show as she discusses the icon Pac interview, her thoughts on Trump, and not buying the newly publicized Suge Knight theory where he was the intended target in the Tupac Assassination.

On First Televised Tupac interview in 1992

First of all I knew he was brilliant. He was very young but he was brilliant. You could tell by his demeanor and his answers and thoughtfulness of life and what he believed in. I don’t think there has really been anyone else like him in the world of Hip Hop as far as I’m concerned and it came from his Mother Afeni. She was carrying him in prison and she was in prison for 200 counts of conspiracy and acted as her own attorney and beat the case herself so she was a brilliant woman too.

He was nervous!

He was nervous because this was his first interview and Juice was not quite out yet. He was laid back and appeared to be calm and very focused.

I wanted to ring his neck!

About two years after the interview I saw him at a party and I wanted to ring his neck. I was like “Sit down here I’m gonna talk to you like your Mother would talk to you!” and I told him “Your starting to believe your press, stop doing that!” Of course there was a lot going on in those days. Right after he had that run in with one of the Hughes Brothers I was like “Really Tupac?” That was when I got upset with him.

At Clive Davis Party for Whitney Houston

We were at a party that Clive Davis had given for Whitney Houston and he was there after spending some time in jail for beating up Alan Hughes the Director and I was upset about that. I knew he was listening to me but it was kinda going in one ear and out the other and that is when I really started getting worried about him and then two years later he was gone.

Not Buying Suge Knight’s story of who killed Tupac (Tupac’s problem was hanging with Suge)

Suge Knight was all up in the middle of all of that and you see where he is at now. I interviewed Suge too and I’ll tell you a story. I was so worried about Tupac and I called Suge one day and said “I think you two need to come to church!” I just felt they needed that at that particular moment. They didn’t come and Im sure Suge laughed about it.

Tupac’s Problem was hanging with Suge

Part of Tupac’s problem was hanging around Suge and if you have noticed a lot of people that tend to be around him, something always happened to them and it is not a good place to be.

Not Buying Suge’s statement about who killed Tupac

Now he is stepping out saying they were really trying to shoot him but I find it interesting that Tupac took all the bullets and he barely got grazed. I’m not buying that theory because of how big he is. Again after Tupac died didn’t he come out with a number 1 hit song for 10 years that Death Row benefited from? Just bad energy!

On Donald Trump (He is destroying Democracy)

Right now I don’t like that man at all but the main thing is because he has been so rude and he has yet to apologize. He is trying to destroy Democracy. His whole platform was America first but of course we knew his whole platform was a lie. He’s been looking for a war to start!
