Lady Gaga is seeking help for "chronic pain" as she prepares to wow fans at the American Music Awards on Sunday (20Nov16).

The singer shared a photo of herself with a doctor on Instagram on Friday (18Nov16), but did not go into details about her condition.

She simply added the caption: "Having a frustrating day with chronic pain, but I find myself feeling so blessed to have such strong intelligent female doctors."

She also name-checked her late aunt, Joanne, who inspired the title of her latest album.

"I think about Joanne too and her strength and the day gets a little easier," Gaga added. "Plus I got @wanaynay (manager Bryan Campbell) by my side."

She also offered up a personal fight mantra, quoting lyrics from her new song Hey Girl, which she recorded with Florence + the Machine's Florence Welch, writing: "Hey Girl, we can make it easy if we lift each other."

Gaga's medical drama could not have come at a worse time for the Poker Face singer, who will headline the AMAs on Sunday and then fly to Paris, France to film her performance at the first Victoria's Secret Fashion Show to be held in the city on 30 November (16). She will then continue preparations for her half-time show at the Super Bowl in February (17).

The busy star has also signed on to portray fashion icon Donatella Versace in Glee and American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy's upcoming TV mini-series Versace/Cunanan: American Crime Story, which will begin shooting early in 2017.

Murphy confirmed the news earlier this month (Nov16), revealing his American Horror Story: Hotel star was his first choice to play designer Donatella in the project.
