Katy Perry believes that music has the power to heal.

The Firework singer is more than happy to spend her free time helping out charitable causes, and recently wowed on the red carpet of the Once Upon a Time Gala held for the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Katy, 31, is a big supporter of the work the hospital does and has previously spent time with the kids and parents involved in the institution’s music therapy programme.

“There was a mother (and) she was holding her baby, and the baby had several tubes attached to it, and she had written a song for her baby about coming home, about eventually bringing her child home, but it was obvious this child was not going to be coming home for a while,” Katy recalled to America’s InStyle.

“We were all standing, the three of us, and I’m like losing it fully. It moved me to see this mother finding some hope through a song. And then I got to sing to teenagers, and they were all hopefully lifted up...I think that this music programme is really, really important. I think music heals everyone.”

She also recently told E! News how focused she is on children right now, and after being on hand to help her sister when she was giving birth in 2014 and earlier this year (16), Katy has found her nurturing side.

"Children to me are becoming a big focus," she gushed. "I don't even have mine but I see it in my sister's kids and just how much nurturing and love they need."
