Singer Katie Melua, joined BUILD Series London to talk about her new album In Winter. When asked what her thoughts were on platforms like the the X Factor, Muela responded:

"One of the things I love about them is they introduce a big audience to classic songs. Like I think our industry is built on songs and records and there's a lot of conversation about the artists being the most important aspect of the record industry and of course we are the creators of the work, but it is the records that people connect with and it is the songs that people connect with. And so whatever else is going on, in this set up and machine that you might call Britain's Got Talent or the X Factor, it is what it is."

"Let's not pretend that there's not big business involved. And huge media machines. And it's entertainment, entertainment for lots of people. But the fact that they introduce a big audience to Leonard Cohen's work. To the greatest songs ever - to Queen's work. There are young people that have never heard of Frank Sinatra, never heard of Queen, I find that astonishing and they tell me that they discovered them from Canadian X Factor. I think good on, for having that platform."
