Pop superstar Niall Horan fell victim to an Instagram hacking attack on Tuesday (13Sep16).

The One Direction star's biography on the photo sharing website changed to "TEAM.ERROR.4.0.4." and pictures of a number of Snapchat and Instagram users' pages posted on Niall's account.

After the security breach, the 23-year-old took to Twitter to inform fans that someone had accessed his Instagram without authorisation, writing, "Something mad is goin (sic) on with my insta(gram). Clearly some fool hacked it but they tagged themselves in it..."

The cyber attack on Niall bears many similarities to a recent one Avengers star Tom Hiddleston fell victim to last month (Aug16).

Tom's Instagram account was broken into, while his biography was also changed to read "TEAM.ERROR.4.0.4.".

A screenshot of the account of a Snapchat user called Mr Control was posted on both the Steal My Girl singer and Tom's Instagram after they were compromised.

Niall recently sparked alarm among his social media followers for entirely different reasons, as he posted a picture of himself in hospital on Snapchat.

"Hooked up at the docs office - acid reflux is no joke," Niall captioned the image.

According to editors at the Daily Mirror newspaper the Irishman has been visiting a specialist to help treat a chronic acid reflux problem which could endanger his singing voice.

Representatives for Niall have been contacted about the cyber attack, but had not responded to a request for comment at the time of WENN going to press.
