Unpredictable and genre-fluid Australian six-piece King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have been announced as the headliners for Bristol Sounds 2027. Returning to the city for a special 5,000-capacity appearance at Canons Marsh Amphitheatre on Wednesday, 23 June 2027, the long-awaited Southwest set marks one of the band's biggest outdoor headline shows to date.
Bringing psych, garage, folk, and electronic sounds from their 28-album career to one of the UK’s most dramatic festival backdrops, the Melbourne outfit continues to be celebrated as one of the world’s most innovative and productive bands.
Following the release of their latest album Alien Meta, this announcement responds to overwhelming demand from their UK fanbase. The band last played in the city in 2024 at the Bristol Beacon, having previously built a massive underground following since their first local show at The Fleece twelve years ago.
Formed by Stu Mackenzie, Ambrose Kenny-Smith, Cook Craig, Joey Walker, Lucas Harwood, and Michael Cavanagh, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have cultivated a fervent global community within what fans call 'The Gizzverse'. Famous for their prolific work rate and open-source Bootlegger initiative, the band constantly reinvents their sonic landscape, moving effortlessly from heavy stoner metal to intricate synth-driven electronic soundscapes.
Celebrating 13 years in 2027, Bristol Sounds takes over the historic waterside amphitheatre along Bristol's former industrial waterfront. The iconic venue offers panoramic views of the city's historic cranes and illuminated landmarks, having previously hosted world-class acts including Manic Street Preachers, Elbow, Placebo, and The War On Drugs. King Gizzard joins drum and bass legend Roni Size on the 2027 summer lineup for a major celebration of live music.
Tickets for King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard at Bristol Sounds go on general sale on Friday, 30 October 2026, at 9:00 AM BST, with a limited pre-sale opening on Thursday, 29 October. Full details and ticket access are available on the official Bristol Sounds website.
