Six years to the day since his Grammy-winning LP It Is What It Is, Thundercat has announced his highly anticipated return with his fifth studio album, Distracted. Arriving April 3rd, 2026, via Brainfeeder, the record serves as a vivid exploration of 21st-century socialization, overstimulation, and the thin line between hindrance and healing.
A Star-Studded Return
Distracted features a powerhouse lineup of collaborators, including A$AP Rocky, WILLOW, Tame Impala, Channel Tres, and Lil Yachty. Perhaps most movingly, the tracklist includes a previously unreleased collaboration with the late Mac Miller titled "She Knows Too Much."
For this project, Thundercat partnered with superproducer Greg Kurstin (Adele, Paul McCartney), while also enlisting additional production turns from longtime friends Flying Lotus, Kenny Beats, and The Lemon Twigs.
First Listen: ‘I Did This To Myself’
The album’s lead single, "I Did This To Myself (feat. Lil Yachty)," is available now. Produced by Flying Lotus, the track is a groovy, self-aware look at the digital dating landscape. Opening with the line, “Hey, what are you doing tonight?”, the song follows Thundercat and Yachty as they navigate the frustrations of an "Instagram baddie" who has no time for their protests—acknowledging, with a wink, that they chose this predicament themselves.
Embracing the Noise
Falling somewhere between the frenzied energy of Drunk and the solemnity of It Is What It Is, Distracted sifts through the wreckage of the attention economy. Thundercat addresses the anticlimax of modern technology—drones without lasers and phones that only upgrade cameras—while identifying daydreams as a necessary form of focus.
"Sometimes you need to be distracted to focus in a different way," Thundercat declares. "Just enjoy it and have fun... the struggle is real and changes shape, but just keep pushing forward."
