Rock in Rio is kicking off its 2026 countdown with a monumental announcement: British rock legend Elton John is confirmed as the first headliner, marking his triumphant return to Brazil after nearly a decade. The iconic artist is set to close the Palco Mundo (World Stage) on September 7th, a date confirmed as his only Brazilian show.

"Every Rock in Rio tells a story," said Roberto Medina, the festival's creator and president. He emphasized that the addition of Elton John, one of the most acclaimed solo artists of all time, will write a new chapter in the festival's history, joining the ranks of legendary past acts like Queen and Coldplay.

The EGOT-winner (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) returns to Brazil following the conclusion of his massive Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in 2023. This performance promises to be spectacular.

Elton John shared his excitement, stating, "I’ve always had a fantastic time whenever we’ve played in Brazil... When Rock In Rio asked me to play, I said yes immediately. I love my Brazilian fans, they hold such a special place in my heart." He added that the energy of these "big one-off shows" since he stopped touring is "unbeatable," and he is eager to share his hits with the audience.

Fans can anticipate an emotional night filled with transcendent classics, including "Rocket Man," "Your Song," "Tiny Dancer," "I’m Still Standing," and "Candle in the Wind."

The festival is scheduled for two weekends: September 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, and 13, 2026, at Cidade do Rock in the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Park. The official countdown to ticket sales begins soon, with the Rock in Rio Card (guaranteeing festival access before the full lineup reveal) going on sale on December 9th exclusively through Ticketmaster Brasil.
