Cult indie duo The Lovely Eggs are set to mark a monumental milestone in October 2025, celebrating their 20th anniversary with a special UK tour. Known for their fiercely independent spirit and uncompromising DIY ethos, the band's longevity and recent chart success stand as a testament to their unique approach to music.
Rough Trade aptly applauds their remarkable journey: "You’ve got to hand it to The Lovely Eggs – over 20 years and still making, distributing and promoting their music completely independently. In today’s climate, that’s no mean feat. It’s something to be fucking applauded." Indeed, The Lovely Eggs have carved out a distinctive universe for themselves, where their artwork, lyrics, sounds, and philosophy merge to create a secret club for their dedicated fanbase.
Singer-guitarist Holly Ross reflects on their two decades: “The last 20 years have been a lifelong dedication to music and art. It’s never been a job, it’s a lifestyle, a way of life, an ethos and a commitment to creating.” Drummer David Blackwell adds, “For the last 20 years we’ve had the freedom to just follow any idea and not be tied to one particular art form.” This boundless creativity saw their latest album, ‘Eggsistentialism’, released in May 2024, crack the top ten of the official vinyl album charts – a considerable leap from their humble beginnings as a dare.
The band’s origin story is as unconventional as their career. Holly recounts, “A mate of ours didn’t believe we had been in bands before and could write songs. So, we wrote and recorded one for her right there that night and that just started the whole damn thing off.” This spontaneous act ignited a commitment to artistic freedom, a principle that has guided them ever since.
To celebrate this significant anniversary, The Lovely Eggs will embark on a UK tour this October, despite not initially planning to tour this year. "We felt we had to get out there and mark the occasion with some very special shows,” Holly stated.
