James Cameron’s record-breaking 2009 blockbuster, Avatar, will receive its world premiere as a Films in Concert extravaganza at the Royal Albert Hall this October.
The event will see the classic sci-fi film screened in full, as James Horner’s score is performed live on stage by a world-class orchestra, choir and soloists.
It’s the third Cameron-Horner collaboration to be presented at the venue by Avex Classics International (ACI), following Titanic Live in 2015 – which was one of the composer’s final public appearances – and Aliens Live in 2016, attended by Cameron and star Sigourney Weaver.
Matt Todd, Director of Programming at the Royal Albert Hall, said: “We’re delighted to be working with James Cameron again – and to once more be celebrating the immortal music of James Horner. Avatar rewrote all the rules, and broke all box-office records, when it was released in 2009, and this 15th anniversary celebration will celebrate this contemporary classic, while bringing the movie’s music to centre stage where it belongs.”
Created by Academy Award-winning James Cameron, the Avatar film series has left an indelible mark on the world of cinema. The first instalment, released in 2009, shattered box-office records and introduced audiences to the lush and breath-taking world of Pandora, a distant planet filled with vibrant flora and fauna. As it stands, Avatar is the highest-grossing film of all time, taking $2.9 billion at the global box office.

Horner, who died in 2015, was the Oscar-winning composer of Aliens, Titanic, Field of Dreams, Glory and Braveheart. During his celebrated career, he also received two Golden Globe awards and six GRAMMYs. His Avatar score was nominated for an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a GRAMMY and a BAFTA, and won the Saturn Award for Best Music.
