Ivor Novello award-winning, multi-platinum selling indie-pop band, The Feeling, announce their new single, ‘The Right Wrong’ - listen here. The band also announce today that their new album, ‘San Vito’ will be released on 5th April 2024.

Written about freeing yourself from judgement, frontman Dan Gillespie Sells comments on ‘The Right Wrong’, "Freedom is a subject that fascinates me. I grew up queer in a queer household so people’s idea of right and wrong were something we dealt with daily. This is just a pure pop song that playfully encourages the listener to make their own rules."

2024 will see the band celebrate nearly 20 years of releasing records - and even more together as a band. ‘San Vito’ is their seventh studio album, it was written and recorded in Southern Italy and saw the band decamp there to self-produce the record as a band together - as they have done since their debut. The title ‘San Vito’ is influenced by the name of the local town San Vito Dei Normanni where the band spent their time off from the studio soaking in the local culture, food and pizzica music. Fittingly, San Vito is also the patron saint of dancers and entertainment.

The band comments on the album, “2023 was a big year for us. Dan moved on from the Doghouse, our long-term base and studio, so in January we decided to try something different and headed to a studio in the Salento region of Puglia, southern Italy to write some songs and see what happened. Just like when we first recorded ‘Twelve Stops…’ in Kev and Ciaran’s parents’ shed, being locked away together and focused on our creativity as a band was a winning formula. After the first week we came back with five songs and a vibe on the recordings that felt exciting, fresh and very much ‘The Feeling’!

They continue, “We made the decision to write and record the whole album there, and over the course of the year we ventured back out, with the album coming together in no time. The sun, food and culture seeped through into the sounds we were making. We brought in local brass, strings and pizzica / tarantella percussion players. It’s very much an album by The Feeling but with a little Salento flavour mixed-in, and we’re very excited for you all to hear it.”

The Feeling first burst onto the English music scene with the release of their UK Top 10 single ‘Fill My Little World’. Three more hit singles from ‘Twelve Stops and Home’ and by the end of 2006, The Feeling were the most played act on UK radio. The record showcased the band's remarkable songwriting prowess and began an incredible musical journey. Building on their initial triumph, the band released their second album, 'Join With Us' in February 2008, which soared to the top of the UK charts. The album's massive success paved the way for unforgettable performances including a show-stopping appearance on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, solidifying their meteoric rise in the music world.

Following several more album releases came the huge success of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie - the musical co-written by Dan alongside Tom MacRae and Jonathan Buterell - which quickly became one the most successful new musicals of the last decade. Premiering at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, before transferring to London’s Apollo Theatre, the production was an overnight hit amongst audiences and critics, receiving rave reviews and garnering five Olivier Award nominations. For the rest of the group, family seemed to merge effortlessly with the day-to-day business of playing music: Ciaran and Kevin Jeremiah (keyboards and guitar) recorded an acclaimed album of original folk-flecked compositions. Richard Jones balanced session work alongside touring with his wife Sophie Ellis-Bextor – whose house band also featured Ciaran on keyboards.

The band came back together in 2021 to release the album ‘Loss. Hope. Love’ and now once again their friendship and musical bond brings them together for this new album. ‘San Vito’ focuses on themes such as relationships, LGBTQ+ issues and sexual freedom. It’s an expression of the band as they are now and includes some exciting, soon to be announced artist features. Following the release, the band will embark on a UK tour throughout May, including a show in London at the iconic venue, KOKO. For The Feeling, there’s a lot to celebrate in 2024.
