Today, Brighton-based rising artist James Marriott has released his debut album Are We There Yet? The 10-track release blends James’ anthemic indie sound with deep and personal lyrics, demonstrating his duality as an artist. Listen to Are We There Yet? here.
Discussing the new album, James says: “My debut album Are We There Yet? is the culmination of the last 15 months of my writing. From indie rock bangers to softer emotional tracks, I comment on the difficulty of finding and maintaining connections both intimate and familiar. Having played my first show in late 2022, the album marks a period of my writing pre and post live performance.”
Are We There Yet? features already released singles 'So Long' and 'Romanticise This', which have amassed a combined total of over 3.4 million streams on Spotify alone. Also included on the album is raw break-up anthem 'Don't Blame Me', which James released last month and described as “the best song that’s ever come out under the James Marriott name”. When creating the album, the Brighton-based artist drew inspiration from the likes of Sam Fender and The 1975 as well as producer Rick Rubin (The Strokes, Linkin Park, Metallica).
Last week, James announced his biggest headline tour to date, kicking off in January 2024 and hitting iconic venues across the UK and Europe including London’s KOKO. Ticket information can be found at jamesmarriottmusic.com.
In the last year, as well as being tipped for greatness by Rolling Stone UK, James has supported the likes of Jake Bugg and completed a headline tour, including London’s The Garage and Brighton’s Concorde 2. After Dork Magazine proclaimed James as “the name on everyone’s lips this summer”, the singer hit stages at the likes of Brighton’s The Great Escape, Live at Leeds, and Neighbourhood Weekender. He also headlined the Thursday night at Leeds Festival and opened the Main Stage of Reading Festival on the Saturday which drew in huge crowds. More live dates to be announced for James Marriott soon.
