Your new favourite old band, The Hoosiers – who comprise original members, vocalist Irwin Sparkes and drummer Alan Sharland – are due to release their new single Idaho on August 4, 2023. Idaho is a sublime, crime-laden masterpiece – or, at least, it’s the least balladic murder ballad you can imagine this side of a state bordered by Montana and Wyoming to the east, Nevada and Utah to the south, and Washington and Oregon to the west. Of course, that’s half the point, since Idaho is just the kind of place you’d escape to if you were trying to cover up for a crime and lay plans to live a wonderful, normal life - that's also founded on a lie! Think Badlands, Bonnie & Clyde, and True Romance – there’s some terrific lines in the song like “you could go by Betty Sue/ I could get a new tattoo!” – but most of all, think ..Steely Dan roughing up Daft Punk in a dark alley, before running off to “somewhere like Idaho.” Naturally, the song’s stark lyrical message is set against the backdrop of the most impossibly-catchy set of hook-laden musical coordinates imaginable – after all, this is the Hoosiers we’re talking about – as if the band have somehow wired themselves into an illegal song-writing machine, Due to be released on August 4 2023, Idaho was produced by Sam Miller, who mixed the first Hoosiers’ album, and can be found on new album, Confidence, due to be released in September 2023.
As wonky as Weezer, as poignant as Pulp, Confidence heralds the long-awaited return of The Hoosiers, the band whose debut album, The Trick To Life, sold well over a million copies, and spawned four singles including Top 5 hits, Worried About Ray, and Goodbye Mr A. As well as Idaho, Confidence features both singles released to date - Hello Sunshine and Snowflake – and was recorded at Angelic Recording Studios. Produced by Sam Miller, it will be released on September 15, 2023
The Hoosiers will be supporting the release of Confidence with several appearances at UK festivals over the summer, before embarking on a full UK tour in September and October this year. Tickets for the tour are on sale now.
