Having rampaged across the UK and Europe on a sold-out 19-date tour, Jim Jones All Stars are set to unleash their debut album, ‘Ain’t No Peril’, on 29th September on Ako-Lite Records. A 15-date UK tour follows in October and November.
Put simply, ‘Ain’t No Peril’ confirms Jim Jones as the true keeper of red raw rock’n’roll faith and the high priest of illicit sonic thrills. Following a midnight sacrifice at Clarksdale’s legendary crossroads in the Deep South, ‘Ain’t No Peril’ was recorded at Memphis Magnetic Studios in the hazy heat of Memphis, Tennessee. Across its 12 tracks, ‘Ain’t No Peril’ is an album infused with an energy and grit that’s impossible to shake off. Like the powerful and magic ley lines that converge on Memphis, Jim Jones All Stars concoct a potent brew made up of Southern soul, rock’n’roll, rhythm and blues, gospel and the sheer all out power that Jim Jones has come to be known for.
“Memphis is a musical melting pot and it’s impossible not to get caught up in that spirit,” says Jim Jones. “When you’re recording within spitting distance of the Mississippi river, there’s something about that heavy Memphis air that changes the way that you hear the groove and grind.”
Joined by Jim Jones Revue members Gavin Jay (bass) and Elliot Mortimer (piano and keys), as well as drummer Chris Ellul (The Heavy), veteran punk blues guitarist Carlton Mounsher (The Swamps), backing singer Ali Jones and the threeway tenor/baritone sax attack of Stuart Dace, Chuchi Malapersona and Tom Hodges, this is ass-shaking music with grit under its fingernails and sweat on its brow as it targets both the feet and the hips with a deadly precision. Drilling deep into the source, ‘Ain’t No Peril’ also features vocal contributions from Memphis legend Nikki Hill and Oxbow’s Eugene Robinson.
This is heartfelt, gritty, soulful, passionate, loud, beautiful and nasty stuff.
This is ‘Ain’t No Peril’ by Jim Jones All Stars.
And you need it bad.
