Indie-pop heavyweights HAIM are returning to the UK since their world tour in 2022, and will be playing their only European show this year at Luno Presents All Points East on Monday 28th August. It’s set to be a huge day of indie and alternative music from across Europe and America, and today we’re delighted to announce more exceptional names are being added to the lineup for Bank Holiday Monday; FKJ, Durand Jones, Paris Paloma, Mae Stephens, Gigi, Theo Bleak and ADMT joining the previously announced artists including Girl in Red, Confidence Man, Lizzy McAlpine, Tove Lo and more.
HAIM have been a particular UK favourite ever since they skyrocketed to Number 1 with their debut album Days Are Gone all the way back in 2013. Ten years on, they have since become one of the most successful indie groups of the 2010s. Their singles have reached the UK Top 40 five times, combining elements of soft rock, jazz, pop and R&B, the three sisters have solidified a fiercely defining and genre-crossing position in the indie/alternative music global scene.
Paris-based multi-instrumentalist FKJ (AKA French Kiwi Juice) has been described as “one of the flag bearers” of the New French House scene. Combining jazz, soul and electronic experimentation, he has paved the way for a new form of improvisation using synths and drum machines as well as live instruments. FKJ received particular acclaim with his live improvised song ‘Tadow’, made with fellow musician Masego, which was recorded just a day after initially meeting each other. The song and accompanying video went viral due to the notable incredible musicality of both musicians. FKJ’s performance at APE will be a masterclass in live musical experimentation.
Indiana, USA native Durand Jones will bring his distinctly rugged, Southern R&B to All Points East for his first time in the UK. He released his debut solo album, Wait Til I Get Over earlier this year to widespread acclaim, with NME rating it 5 stars and calling it “gritty but glorious”. Having recently broken off from his previous outfit Durand Jones & The Indications, this new album represents a new era for the traditional but genre-bending musician.
British singer-songwriter Paris Paloma has made a fast rise to prominence with her folk-pop guitar-based songwriting accompanying sharp lyricism that reads like poetry. Her single titled Labour, released this year, has racked up over 40 million listens on Spotify and has since gone viral on Tik-Tok due to the frank and honest tale of the experience of womanhood. NME said that “The song has asserted itself as a genuine rallying cry.” Paloma is now paving the way for music as a genuinely validating form, which is a refreshing take that will be an inspiration for the APE audience.
Mae Stephens also joins the bill. An electric 19 year old singer from Northampton, Mae has been writing songs since the age of 12. She rose to success with the release of her “quirky, funk-propelled pop song” ‘If We Ever Broke Up’ (Official Charts). This soon saw her become one of the most buzzed-about new talents in the UK right now. Mae previously self-released two songs, the piano ballads ‘White Lies’ and ‘Infamous Kiss’ and there's tonnes more to look forward to and she’s fresh from a summer of festivals including two shows as part of BST Hyde Park.
Born in New Jersey and raised in Florida, gigi had her breakout moment after sharing her song ‘Sometimes (Backwood)’ on TikTok and releasing it independently. The song quickly racked up 18 million streams in the first six months, and combined global streams now surpass 72 million. ‘Figurines’ is the latest in a remarkable string of follow-up singles from gigi that include ‘The Man’, ‘When She Smiles’ and ‘Glue’. Depicting the life of a queer twenty-something, the songs showcase her blunt yet tender poetry. Hailed as “one of Gen Z’s breakout artists,” gigi’s star continues to rise, setting the stage for her debut album.
Dundee-based singer-songwriter/producer Theo Bleak will be bringing her brutally honest indie to the APE stage on August 28th. Theo has used songwriting almost as a type of therapy, one that provides her realisations about herself that wouldn’t have come had she not explored them through creative endeavours. This is a particularly introspective and philosophical musician - her latest EP named after the Greek poem Iliad. Slow, thoughtful grooves underpinning reverb-laden guitar melodies will fill the atmosphere at APE this year.
Adam Taylor, aka ADMT, is one of the newest offerings of talent coming from the North of England. As Notion puts it “ADMT is writing songs that seek to encourage people to stand up, be proud of their background and believe in their dreams.” We can’t wait to catch him in action at All Points East.
Each year, All Points East delivers an epic line up of world class headliners, exceptionally curated supporting line ups and big exclusives. This year is set to be no exception…this year we have national icon Stormzy’s ‘This Is What We Mean Day’ on Friday 18th August, one of this century’s defining rock bands, The Strokes, will return to Victoria Park on Friday 25th August, Irish singer Dermot Kennedy on Sunday 27th August, plus Californian acclaimed rock trio HAIM will make their Luno presents All Points East debut on Bank Holiday Monday 28th August for a European exclusive show. Earlier this month, it was announced that the British electronic project, Jungle, will headline on Saturday 26th August, joined by Erykah Badu and many more.
Luno presents All Points East has become the essential London event since its inception four years ago. The quality of artists runs very deep across the days with established names and those on the cusp of stardom entertaining crowds. The 2022 event featured headliners: Gorillaz, APE Presents: Field Day, The Chemical Brothers and Kraftwerk, Tame Impala, The National, Disclosure and Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds.
2019 saw a flurry of awards for the new festival; Q Magazine awarded All Points East ‘Festival Of The Year’, and that same year All Points East won the award for ‘Best Festival’ at the Music Week Awards. The year before, 2018’s debut established this essential new event as one of the best festivals in the UK. Winning ‘Festival Of The Year’ at the Music Week Awards and ‘Line-Up of the Year’ at the UK Festival Awards, All Points East 2018 boasted headline sets from LCD Soundsystem, The xx, Björk, Catfish & The Bottlemen, The National and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
East London’s beautiful Victoria Park in Tower Hamlets also hosts a hugely popular community focused event each year. In The Neighbourhood, in collaboration with Tower Hamlets Council, hosts a vibrant programme of activities and entertainment, working with the local community, businesses, organisations and suppliers. Previous activities have seen something for everyone - eco-friendly creative workshops, free yoga sessions, street food, open air movie nights, themed drag shows and film panels with Richmix. Everything is free and 2023’s programme will be announced in the new year.
A commitment to sustainability and accessibility goes hand in hand with the community elements and All Points East is proud to have been awarded Gold on Attitude is Everything’s Charter of Best Practice for our commitment to Deaf and disabled music fans.
All Points East continues to work each year with local charity the Tower Project to give volunteer opportunities to young people with learning disabilities and autism on site at the festival, as well as providing education and performance opportunities to the students of nearby ELAM arts and music school. Committing to 100% renewable energy, working towards eliminating single-use plastic from all serve-ware and programming upcycling workshops for children during In The Neighbourhood are further examples of the commitment to the local community and the park.
