Lord Huron unveiled a new song entitled “Ace Up My Sleeve”, which was featured in the new film The Starling Girl, notably scored by Lord Huron vocalist/guitarist Ben Schneider.
The Starling Girl opens in theaters in New York and Los Angeles on Friday, May 12, with additional markets following on Friday, May 19. The film was written and directed by Laurel Parmet and stars Eliza Scanlen, Lewis Pullman, Wrenn Schmidt, Austin Abrams, and Jimmi Simpson.
Speaking on the new song and its involvement in The Starling Girl, lead singer Ben Schneider said: “Being asked to compose a song that actually plays a role in the story is a dream come true for a songwriter. To have the song function in service of the narrative of such a beautiful film in that way is really special.”
“Ace Up My Sleeve” channels the echoes of classic country through a modern, alternative prism. Slide guitar wails over breezy strumming as Schneider lets off a hummable melody on the hook, “I can’t lose. There’s an ace up my sleeve.” It instantly captivates and seamlessly fits The Starling Girl. This marks the first time Schneider has composed the score of a major motion picture.
Later this month, Lord Huron will head out on a much-anticipated 2023 North American tour.
The tour starts May 24 at the Redding Civic Auditorium in Redding, CA and includes two sold-out nights at both Red Rocks and Toronto’s fabled Massey Hall. Additionally, they grace the bills of several festivals throughout the summer, including Summerfest in Milwaukee, Calgary Stampede and headline slots at Outlandia and Wildlands festivals.
