Christine and the Queens release new single “Tears can be so soft,” from his forthcoming album 'PARANOÏA, ANGELS, TRUE LOVE', out June 9th via Because Music.

In the accompanying music video for “Tears can be so soft,” Chris moves through the streets of Los Angeles, completely immersed in the rhythm of the track. The video was directed by Chris and is an ode to creativity and self-expression.

On the inspiration behind the single, Chris says: “Tears can be so soft was born out of the marriage of a Marvin Gaye sample that caught my attention, this intoxicating, elegant, almost poised in its melancholy string arrangement.” Chris wanted a sound that would create “this deep sense of almost womb-like, hypnotic space where the voice could soar in its loneliness,” an “interplay between the suffering that motivates tears and the gentle healing effect they can have.”

An exhibition of Chris’s dynamic vocals in concert with his and Mike Dean’s thrilling orchestration, the track follows the album’s debut single “To be honest”, which Pitchfork described as “dazzlingly grand,” and “True love” (featuring 070 Shake), which was praised by The New York Times as “thoroughly obsessional,” with Stereogum proclaiming it as “truly gorgeous arena-sized art music.”

'PARANOÏA, ANGELS, TRUE LOVE' is written, performed, and produced by Christine and the Queens, with co-production by Mike Dean (Lana Del Rey, Beyonce). The album will feature guest appearances from powerhouses Madonna and 070 Shake.

Christine and the Queens will curate the legendary Meltdown Festival at London’s Southbank Centre between 9-18 June 2023, and give two headline performances on both days of the finale weekend (both now sold out). He will also be performing at a number of festivals worldwide, including headline slots at Glastonbury Festival and Wilderness Festival, alongside numerous others, before returning to the UK in the autumn for a run of headline shows.
