Alexander Stewart releases his brand new single 'Leave Me in The Dark' this Wednesday 5th April ahead of his upcoming UK & European tour in May 2023. His UK headline tour culminates in a headline set at The Great Escape Festival on 12 May. In another huge career triumph, Alexander has also been announced as one of the support acts for Charlie Puth across his upcoming US tour dates in summer 2023.
The accompanying music video features enigmatic shots of Alexander alongside a couple plagued by miscommunication. With one half of the couple constantly blindfolded, they struggle to navigate an empty house as the power imbalance between them grows. Alexander is also blindfolded momentarily, echoing the betrayal felt by the breakdown of his relationship in the lyrics of “Leave Me in The Dark”.
It follows his recent soul-searching smash, “Blame’s On Me” which has been streamed over 50 million times. This new track is the next chapter in Alexander’s story and focuses on the betrayal that follows the breakdown of his relationship. The explosive rousing chorus takes your breath away when accompanied by Stewart’s pitch perfect vocals and meaningful lyrics.
Alexander says: “Leave me in the dark is a song I wrote about a really toxic relationship. At the end of it, instead of ending with closure, I was completely ghosted, and it killed me.”
The Toronto-born artist sang in choirs from an early age, and as he got older, was drawn to the hype-creating YouTube covers from artists like Shawn Mendes, Charlie Puth and Bruno Mars. Inspired by these artists, he hit the recording studio and got to work on honing his craft throughout high school, eventually sparking viral gold with his take on Camila Cabello’s “Havana.” Manifesting dreams into reality, Charlie Puth recently asked Alexander to support him on his US tour this summer. He has been earmarked as an artist to watch by everyone from BBC Radio 1 Future Pop, BBC Newsbeat, Official Charts, 1883 and Euphoria.
