Vevo today releases its annual year-end look back on music video viewership. Within this wrap-up, Vevo has shared its most watched music videos and artists of 2022 globally and in the UK, as well as the trending music videos, sought after during key moments throughout the year, from TV series and film premieres to major artist news and global events.

Top Music Videos of 2022
“We Don't Talk About Bruno (From ‘Encanto’)” is the UK’s most-viewed music video of 2022, with 37 million views. Consumers embraced the Latin-themed Disney hit, as it provided much needed cultural representation and diversity, despite not being sung in English.

At 15.4 million views, Harry Styles’ “As It Was’” is No. 2, with its popularity fueled by a massively successful year for Styles which included the release of his third album, Harry’s House, a global tour, and starring in his first film, “Don’t Worry Darling”. Closely following is Aitch & Ashanti’s “Baby” with 13.6 million views, Lady Gaga’s “Hold My Hand” from blockbuster “Top Gun” with 7.6 million views, and George Ezra’s “Green Green Grass” with 7.5 million views.

Top Artists of 2022
Coming in first place on Vevo’s Top Viewed Artists Chart in the UK is Eminem with nearly 76M views, who celebrated the 20th anniversary of 8 Mile with numerous pop-ups and other activations, along with a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.

Following Eminem is Taylor Swift with nearly 64M views, 2021 top global artist The Weeknd with 58M, Adele with 55M and Rihanna with 50M.

Looking at film premieres this year, the debut of “Top Gun” Maverick” drew in a 125% lift in views for Kenny Loggins’ "Danger Zone". The following month, during the opening weekend of “Elvis”, fans revisited the legend’s performance videos, with “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You (‘68 Comeback Special)” seeing 514% lift in weekend views in the U.K.

On TV, Boy George joined the cast of “I’m A Celebrity 2022” and drove nostalgic fans to old Culture Club videos, boosting their catalogue viewership by 412% in the U.K.

Football Festivities
During the 2022 UEFA European Women's Football Championship this summer, “Three Lions” saw 12x its U.K. daily views when compared to the previous 30 days on Vevo.
England fans also geared up for big World Cup matches, with “Three Lions” drawing in 11x its average U.K. viewership ahead of England playing the U.S.A., for example.
Fans also couldn’t help but revisit their past faves, like Shakira’s “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)”, which saw a 141% lift in the U.K. the day the World Cup tournament started.

Current Events
2022 saw a number of pivotal moments in politics and international affairs. When Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24th, to the shock of much of the global community, the music video for The Beatles’ “Back In The U.S.S.R.” tripled.

In September, upon the sudden news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in British history, the Sex Pistols’ "God Save The Queen" music video saw a 13x spike in views in the UK.
