US funk masters Lettuce hit London next week to commence a set of European shows as they continue to promote their well received ‘Unify’ album that was released in early June. They play at the Scala on 20th September, while the full list of dates can be seen below.
They group have issued a live studio performance video today of the track ‘Shine’ from the album. It was shot at Colorado Sound, the same studio where they recorded ‘Unify’ and its predecessors ‘Elevate’ and ‘Resonate’. Within its first few seconds, listeners are met with what could be described as aural sunshine, hence the track title.
The clip sees the Grammy-nominated sextet - Adam Deitch (drums), Ryan Zoidis (saxophone), Adam ‘Shmeeans’ Smirnoff (guitar), Erick ‘Jesus’ Coomes (bass), Nigel Hall (keyboards/vocals), Eric ‘Benny’ Bloom (trumpet) - present a snapshot of what a day in the studio might look like.
Shmeeans sums up ’Shine', stating: “Lett's go for a ride in the whip and turn it up! ‘Shine' has both that bumpin’ and relaxing feel all at once. Golden era hip hop feels with a heavy nod to A Tribe Called Quest. Boom bap, a bassline to make you move, Rhodes, melodic horns and Wes guitar octaves keep this one feeling like the warm sun on your face.”
As for their current album, Jesus adds: “Music is the great unifier and we produced ‘Unify' with the intention of bringing people together in truth, respect and love.”
