St Vincent (aka Annie Clark) today (Friday 1st June) releases an enticing, groove-laden new take on Lipps Inc’s iconic 1979 disco hit ‘Funky Town’, produced by 2022 Grammy Producer of the Year Jack Antonoff. Featuring St Vincent’s unmistakable vocals wrapped in a vocoder effect and set to a bouncing bassline, this cover is the newest offering from the original motion picture soundtrack for Illumination’s Minions: The Rise of Gru, the new action-comedy from the biggest animated franchise in history, set for release on Friday 1st July to coincide with the film’s global theatrical release.
Last year, Clark released her critically acclaimed sixth studio album ‘Daddy’s Home’, which saw her take home her 3rd Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. Her previous Grammy wins include her first for Best Alternative Album for 2014’s ‘St. Vincent’, and Best Rock Song in 2019 for the title track to her ‘MASSEDUCTION’ album.
