organisers of one of Spain’s premier festivals Bilbao BBK Live have announced a brand new three day music festival called Cala Mijas. Taking place from 1-3 September 2022 in the picturesque town of Mijas, just south of Malaga in Spain, the festival offers culture seekers the chance to enjoy some of the world's greatest live acts against the atmospheric backdrop of one of the Costa Del Sol’s most celebrated beachfront destinations. The new festival, which fuses international sounds with local culture, has been founded with environmental and social responsibility at its heart, pledging a commitment to preserving its surrounding area and positively contributing to the development and growth of the local community.
Set amongst an oasis of palm trees, rustic white houses and golden sandy beaches, Cala Mijas teases a diverse music programme showcasing the best in both regional and global talent from across the world’s of rock, hip-hop, electronic and pop. Offering the first taste of what to expect from the new festival, Cala Mijas today announce the first 14 names on the billing, with Sheffield royalty Arctic Monkeys confirmed for a headline slot. The indie icons will be joined by electronic forefathers and synthesizer masterminds Kraftwerk and inimitable synthpop band Hot Chip. Also joining the mix are Australian singer and songwriter Chet Faker - who will showcase his new album - British indie-rock band The Blossoms, Latin music songstress Nathy Peluso, and British indie newcomers with No.1 album status The Lathums, among others.
Bringing the local flavour, the festival will of course also showcase some of Spain's most exciting talent including the likes of electro-punk of El Columpio Asesino; indie popsters Love of Lesbian, and the catchy melodies of Sen Senra,among many more names soon to be announced.
Cala Mijas is a new festival built on new principles - from the offset the organisers vow to preserve the area of Mijas and contribute to the local community and have pledged to follow the guidelines of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, both in the festival’s execution and the way its values are promoted.
Tickets for the festival will go on sale on Wednesday, December 1st, at 8 a.m. (UK time). Tickets and campsites can be purchased via seetickets.com/es. Starting today at 10 (UK time), there is a waiting list to access exclusive pre-sale tickets that can be purchased for 80€ on the 29th of November.
