Multi-award-winning musician, composer, songwriter and cultural pioneer Nitin Sawhney has announced a one-off live streamed event taking place on 27th March, celebrating the release of his brand new album ‘Immigrants’.
Recorded at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse which forms part of Shakespeare’s Globe on London’s Southbank, the intimacy and cultural importance of Nitin’s music is reflected in the surroundings of this filmic production, lit only by candles underneath the ornately painted ceiling in the replica Jacobean theatre, one of the most exceptional venues in the UK.
The performance will be filmed in multi-camera HD, featuring live performances of tracks from ‘Immigrants’, alongside his extensive back catalogue, as well as a Q&A with BBC Radio 4’s Anita Rani talking through his extraordinary career.
CEO Ollie Rosenblatt, producer of the show comments, “Senbla has for a number of years been involved in producing broadcasts of some of the shows it promotes as we’re always looking at new ideas and opportunities to deliver added creative value for our artists – we first started this back in 2013 with Don Black and the BBC.
Over the last year all artists have had to look at new ways in engaging fans – not just for now, but also in future. Producing a one-off event has to special; the audience and fans expect the best. We have been working with Nitin for some time now; he is such a great artist, interesting and intellectual, that we really wanted to produce something extra special for this streamed event, something that will be cherished not only by the artist, but also his audience. When the opportunity came up to collaborate with The Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at The Globe, well the stars certainly aligned. The audience will truly experience this unique artist, in the most wonderous of settings, like never before”.
Nitin Sawhney comments “I am really looking forward to this performance at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, as it will be the first since lockdown in March last year. I particularly love this gorgeous and intimate venue for its mood and history, and feel it presents a fantastic opportunity to premier three tracks from the new album. plus more familiar material, live in such a beautiful space.
I am also excited to be collaborating on this show with Sony Masterworks, Senbla and Moment House. I am honoured to be joined on stage by four of my favourite artists who, together with myself, will make up the band”.
‘Immigrants’, Nitin Sawhney’s new album and official sequel to seminal 1999 mercury nominated ‘Beyond Skin’, will be released 19th March 2021 on Sony Masterworks.
The album is a unique celebration of immigrants around the world and showcases works inspired and contributed to by artists who either identify themselves as immigrants, are from immigrant heritage, or wish to express support for those international immigrants who have found themselves judged or disadvantaged by pure accident of birth.
Tickets for the event are available to purchase from and screened on Moment House, a world-leading platform that has pioneered digital events for the likes of Justin Bieber, Danny Brown, and Halsey.
The show will feature audio production from Spiritland, as well as multi-camera HD direction from long standing Ed Sheeran collaborator, Nic Minns.
There will also be an opportunity for fans to purchase tickets to an afterparty Q&A with Nitin, and a one-to-one meet & greet webchat.
