DAM, essential pioneers of Palestinian hip-hop, return to the UK to exclusively preview up-and-coming album, Ban Haana Wa Maana, released on 07 June 2019 through Cooking Vinyl. The legendary act is the first ever Palestinian Hip Hop group and one of the most influential exponents of the genre in the Middle East.
The tour will take DAM’s talents to: Constellations in Liverpool, Band On The Wall in Manchester, The Crossing in Birmingham; delivering their intonation of Arabic-language rap and the unmistakeably hip-hop attitude. There final date, Jazz Café, in London, Camden, is a staple of the underground jazz scene, which incorporate everything from west African rhythms to future soul, grime and Afrofuturist spoken word.
The album, lyrically, merges political topics and contentious issues with bouncy beats and catchy instrumentals; creating a tangible sense of fun. Topics advocate issues including, LGBT and women’s rights, uniting ethnic minorities and poverty.
DAM are excited to reveal their brand-new single, Emta Njawzak Yamma, released 08 February. Their new sound is inspired after the trio’s sonic exploration around the globe searching for freedom. The groups activity will culminate with their third studio album, Ban Haana Wa Maana.
DAM fuse traditional Middle Eastern sounds, rhythm and intonation of Arabic-language rap and the unmistakeably hip-hop attitude.
Formed in 1999 DAM were one of the first acts to popularise rapping in Arabic (although they also rap in English and Hebrew) and have since become renowned for their unique fusion of East and West which combines Arabic percussion rhythms, Middle Eastern melodies and urban hip-hop. Their first single Min Irhabi (‘Who's the terrorist?’) racked up over 1 million downloads and brought the group to the attention of young people across the Middle East for both their distinctive musical style and the political and humanitarian subtext of their music.
