A Press Conference was called after tonight’s Jury Final of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. There was a power outage during this evening’s show, which caused it to be halted for around 60 minutes as the stage lighting system failed. Audience and backstage areas were unaffected however, so there were no immediate safety implications. Vladislav Yakovlev, Junior Eurovision Executive Supervisor from the EBU (European Broadcasting Union), Anton Attard, Executive Producer of the show, together with Ola Melzig, Viewing Room Producer, explained what had happened. The huge number of technical staff involved in the project worked hard to rectify the problems with a large generator and it’s associated systems as quickly as possible, and the show later restarted normally. Of course, rehearsals are designed to iron out problems as they occur, and the many technical staff involved rose magnificently to this evening’s unexpected challenge.
